To Protect and Serve: a look at the world’s police cars

Mom if your looking at this just be thankful that you drive a Dodge Charger instead of this…..

Boy, cops in Australia sure are scary!

I will take this time to thank those of you who serve this great country even if you may have gotten the shaft when it comes to the hotrod you drive bearing the statement “to protect and serve”
Thank you

There's something weird about police cars. No matter where you go, they all look somewhat the same, yet still completely different. It's one of those strange travel gems -- like grocery stores and candy bars -- that seem so familiar yet remain absolutely different and strangely interesting. Here's a whole boat-load of police cars in different shapes, sizes, colors, and flavors from different corners of the globe. Enjoy!

Microsoft’s Stunning Photosynth Technology - A Collection of Everything Online so far.

I watched the initial demo today and was absolutely stunned. This single technology is going to ripple an effect among every industry out right now. From what the ideaology is so far, we will (very soon) have a complete 3 dimensional composite of our entire planet. Think here for a second, what this will do for…o lets say….video games!!!! Movies, Websites, Graphics, Navigation Systems. As a Web Developer, it would be utterly beautiful to be able to encompass this technology into my flash work, flash sites, etc. The work is cut out for the user/ developer because you have a complete structure in reallife color of an area. Anycase, I took it upon myself due to the overwhelming response on Digg, Blogs, etc. to (just like photosynth lol =) mash everything that is out there so far and publish a SINGLE post with the videos, links, information, etc. To say the least…….
Be excited.

This amazing technology uses photos of random snapshots pointing in the area of a single subject and mashes it into a single 3 dimensional piece of that subject. Photosynth (based on Seadragon technology) creates breathtaking multidimensional spaces with zoom and navigation features that outstrip all expectation. Its architect, Blaise Aguera y Arcas, shows it off in this standing-ovation demo. “Perhaps the most amazing demo I’ve seen this year,” wrote Ethan Zuckerman, after TED2007. Indeed, Photosynth might utterly transform the way we manipulate and experience digital images.

PHOTOSYNTH AND HOW IT WORKS

If you look at the photo and have watched the video this is a visual diagram of what it does exactly. By taking photos of of different resolutions, different cameras, different people, it creates a mashup of a single subject. The tiny camera symbols scattered throughout the photo, represents the places inwhich each photo is shot. With many different pictures, all stitched together with different angles it is able to replicate the original subject in a manner where resolution is not an issue.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WEBDEVELOPER. IDESIGNED THIS HOMEPAGE USING APOLLO FOR US WEB 2.0 DEVELOPERS TO USE EVERYDAY.

This is my first and definetly not last Apollo application created for a very global purpose.

    Work Smarter not Harder.

I don’t think I’m the only developer out there that starts there day going to a hundred different websites just to keep up with current events. I only recently have gotten very tiresome of going first to my email, then going to delicious.com, then going to digg, then going BACK to my delicious and then checking the rss feeds, then going to weatherchannel.com, then going to google maps if theres someone I need to meet that day, ETC. I’m sick of that!!! About the same time that I realized this the new web designer magazine - issue 132 *Monsters of Flash* came out with a nice little reference to a site called “www.yourminis.com” Casually I browsed over there and opened up an entire box of ideas and wonderful tools. Once you see the site and the setup I have you’ll understand it’s all flash. actionscript is pushing the functionality to another level utilizing the flex 2 framework and then patching it all together with apollo. With a very simple and easy user interface, you use a palette (or tab) with small grids into for an accurate measurement system. Once you place the widgets you want you can lock the widget and then publish the page for everyone to see. With me being a developer thats the first thing I thought of. Making an ‘ultimate” customizable homepage with all my interest accessible from any browser across the world.(all i have to do is sign in.)This is amazing and truly pushes Apollo by Adobe into the development community. Unbelievably, 9 hours later I created something I hope my community of designers and web “guru’s” can appreciate. Forget iGoogle with just my email and weather..Now I have

…..Everything.

Page 1 of 5 - The Initial Homepage.

In the initial tab that pulls up now, when I fire up firefox, there are a number of personal things like email, tip of the day, quote of the day, my delicious, etc. These widgets within the web developer homepage are the more important things for a developer. Things he/she needs to address first and foremost. I decided to use one of the graphics I created for the background. Now each one of these tabs serves an immediate purpose…to eliminate time spent on bandwidth from going to this site and that site. As far how this all works, well everything on yourminis is customizable from the font, to the alpha, to where exactly all these widgets are positioned.

Page 2 of 5 - The Media Hub.

Now I have a flickr widget on here but Im not sure where it’s at but anycase, all of everyone on the internet these days get caught up in the multimedia circuit of “the best videos of today,” great photos, etc. This is the tab for that. All you favorite pictures, videos, the best rated media will go HERE.

Page 3 of 5 - What Keeps our skills still sharp.

This is the best part….I have grabbed as many great RSS feeds that I could find without taking forever to download. All of these blogs are the allstar websites we continue to go to everyday to keep current on all web design events, and new techniques of our favorite languages….xml, actionscript, apollo, flex, xhtml, css, javascript, etc….there all here. In one very neat, nice little place. Again keep in mind…there ALL customizable. This is just the second version so far.

Page 4 of 5 - The rest of the news and our lives..

This is the RSS feeds for everything else besides design and development. Anything from the new York times to self improvement to cnn to wired (music blogs) This is the top rated stories for all the best and biggest on the web.

Page 5 of 5 - Tools.

And last but not least this is the tab inwhich any sort of quick useful tools will be…Instead of “o shoot, I have to find google maps, or load up google earth. ITS ALL RIGHT HERE. There’s only a couple but again. This is just a start point once you go to the site link below and start your own acc, then download my homepage, you’ll have a great starting point for making a very accurate, helpful, and timesaving homepage. Hope you all enjoy and check back for newer versions.

the 13 crystal skulls, ancient mayan hard drives? O and EVERYTHING ABOUT THE WORLD ENDING.

I have recently ran accross many different accounts of information regarding this rediculously interesting mystery that originates in South America/Mexico and has ties to the Mayan culture. The mayan culture have been an extremely unique race and with scientific evidence, they were probably one of the most advanced and “ahead of their time” cultures in human history.

As you will watch the video, it may sound somewhat hokey but in ancient times there were a collection of 13 mayan skulls made from various forms of crystal. These beautiful pieces were hand made and not in anyway shape or form crafted from human tools. A collection of some of the top scientist from hp were sent out to investigate 1 of the 5 skulls that we have found so far and to these intelligent scientist they were stumped. There words were “with all of what we know about technology, this skull is not physically possible, this should’nt be here!” No chisel marks, no melting evidence, absolutely no physically alteration to the skull, which meant it was either made from something other than humans (machines) or human’s made it with something far more advanced than where we’re at now. Each one of these 5 skulls, there is said to be a cylinder shaped area coming up through what would be the throat on a human and into the skull cavity. There it looks as though there is a diagnal slant pointing towards the eyeholes. Researcher have thought and opened up the idea that light could be shot up through the bottom of the skull, reflected off the top then projected through the eyes. This theory also matches the old writings of the culture that states basically, if humans do not find all 13 skulls and connect them (in some way) together before a certain time frame, we will not be able to save our race. Sounds nuts, but in looking into this it has started to make some sense.

I read an article a few months back about someone testing the effectiveness of diamonds and data. ie: storing data in crystals. If you understand how a cd-r or a dvd-r works you understand all it is, is bending light a certain way to store digital binary. If they were able to manipulate a crystal correctly they said it would be possible to store TONS of data. Like terrabytes of data, in something the size of a moderate wedding ring. Let alone a large, thick, heavy, skull. If each one of those crystals are truly each, a “chapter” in a book that explains a lot more about ourselves than we know, then….well….we probably should find those things, and further our technology. I know your just reading this single post and it seems like a stretch but it’s really not if you do some research this culture has been right about many things. Mayan’s have baffled scientist with concepts and unique methods of doing things for years.

For instance they had a large ancient calender that were aligned with astrology and this specific calender stopped on December 21st, 2012. There is an in depth explanation for this

(its in 4 volumes)

but if you add this together. You realize that these skulls had to come from either somewhere or someone that truly was genious or possibly…..maybe not human at all and it makes you think. Do some research on our generation storing data in diamonds and think of the movie “contact” then tell me you don’t think it’s possible. Why would a culture go so far in trying to construct something so magnificent with no preconceived notion. They have been right about a number of other things as well. Think about that…

Rated Best Flash component for Flash 8,

This website has an absolutely stunning component for flash, I definetly think

its worth the measly 25 dollars but we’ll let you speak for yourself, take a look and tell me this doesnt make you think twice about some of us already hitting WEB 3.0!

Flipping pages displays it's amazing component for Flash

The page flipping object provides for software page caching. This allows caching control and provides maximum comfort for the users. No more annoying blinks while another page is being loaded from the browser cache.

This is the world’s only flash development that provides such a great page flipping animation control opportunity. You may define page flipping and return speed. You may set the auto flip to respond to mouse pointer located near a page edge. Or, you may disable any response to mouse clicks leaving only the auto flip working, and create any user interface on the page. Users will not be distracted from the page at every mouse click anymore.

The page flip effect is known to have high CPU resources requirements, therefore our engine was initially designed to save CPU resources. On average, this object works 30% more efficiently than its known counterparts.

If you want to make a nice looking book with front and rear cover pages, you no longer need to create transparent pages: all you need is to control the Always Opened parameter.

The configuration usability is so designed that even someone not familiar with all object’s properties can make a full capacity HTML-page with page flipping in just a few seconds. Believe us: having installed the object and prepared the images or animations for the pages you’ll create your first HTML with page flipping in less than a minute.

The component can be used in a movie with any structure. You can control the component to create contents, navigation panels, page print or enlargement using ActionScrpt.
The component can operate with XML files.

-Flipping-Pages technology comes in two forms, the full package which includes: instructions, an .fla file, a swf file as well as a few other things.
Then another form which is a stripped down version with a pre-made template using the .swf format.

Attention my portfolio is functioning and up, visit KCWEBDESIGN.NET/FOLIO

With a great amount of work and anticipation I have finalized my portfolio and will continue to make additions as the time permits. With my graduation at Centriq Foss I am officially on the hunt for the company to kick off my career. Hours of research on different companies have been put in as well as truly putting my networking skills to the very max, I couldnt be anymore excited. For me, I have lived, breathed, thought, and slept web design and graphic design for a long time. Now it is finally time to utilize my skills in a company that I will honestly be able to say “I am as loyal to this company, as I am to my family.” lol It’s been a long time if ever that those words have came out of my mouth. I have been trying to juggle ADIQ.US, my own personal projects, daily life, looking for a job, and Geek Squad it will be an extremely relieving notion to focus all my attention to just a couple things. Anycase, this post is obviously not a something I would submit to digg or stumbleupon but for my friends and family, this is for them. I have asked help from a lot of people in my life lately and this is that moment in my life Im able to hop that fence and be on the other side. The side where they start receiving from me and getting back what they gave me. I appreciate everything that everyone has fortunately helped me with, and not just my technical college but in general as well.

No single person can do everything on their own but with the help of others, people can accomplish something they may never have thought was possible.

A position where they have truly accomplished something incredible and have found their niche in life. For me…it’s Design, Thanks to everyone.

Respectfully,

Andrew.

Current Trends and Fads in Web Design Sites for 2007

THIS BLOG had an extremely interest article that explains the current trends in Web Design. Kind of a, fashions quartely on what is really hot for your websites. Check it out and study up, this is what clients will be wanting.

This is the Article

Web Desktop Style

pros: High-end looking style

cons: The most expensive

This is the most refined style with attempt to get close to graphics rich desktop look-and-feel as close as possible. As a result, that kind of style looks nice, but requires a lot of work and, usually, consumes lots of traffic.
In brief, Desktop Style can be distinguished by gradients all around, rich graphics, shadows and other imitation of desktop applications.

Examples of distinctive Web Desktop elements:

. Usually, it is an area of screen with a border, a header and a footer, to aggregate logically connected elements: links, text, a score card, an article preview. Blocks may come with optional shadow.

Miniblocks

are blocks in blocks: usually they have mini-picture with tiny text.

Buttons. These web design elements come with gradient, contrast borders, optional shadow. Buttons may have “glass” effect, having reflections from underneath light. Usually buttons react on “mouseover” events (do some visual effect, when user moves mouse over the button).

Tabs. They also use gradient, contrast borders, optional shadow. They react to “mouseover” event.

Silver Orange Style

pros: Usability, lightweight, simple

cons: Fashion, followers, somewhat expensive

A little bit simpler look-and-feel, with a good balance between style and a light-weight composition. Silver Orange style of web design is more concentrated on usability, than on a rich looking interface.
It does not try to impress a user (unlike Desktop Style), but rather provide him with a good usability experience.
As expected, silverorange.com are creators of Silver Orange design style.

Examples of distinctive Silver Orange style elements:

Top Menu. Usually it is dark with a light font color; background comes with a rich-colored gradient and contrast dividers:

Logo and guide line More gradients, guideline is in contrast with top menu background, font color is gray.

Gradient and text divider. More gradients, mild divider

Apple Style

pros: High-end, quality, luxury
cons: Very distinctive, expensive

The style with glass tabs and buttons as a central figures of the design. Not very usable due to massive use of small or tiny fonts, but still pleasant, if you don’t have to deal with a small text quite often.
Expensive, requires a lot of work. Distinctive, so it’s extremely hard to seem original, doing web design in Apple Style, almost impossible.

Example of distinctive Apple style:

Apple Menu. Apple menu is a central point of Apple web design style. Everything else has pretty much the same style: glass buttons, gradients, rounded blocks…

Microsoft Style

pros: Functional, simple, cheap

cons: Perception: you are a MS affiliate

The main thing, which makes a site being in Microsoft Style is a gray, plain navigation panel on the left column with floating menus. Simple, clean and way too generic.
Created by engineers for engineers.

Example of distinctive Microsoft style:

Microsoft Menu. The main menu of Microsoft web design style is gray, functional and simple. Borders, “mouseover” events processing, floating sub-menus… Usually it occupies left column.

One more distinctive thing of Microsoft web design style is gradient in header condensing from left to right with search form on the top-right corner.

All blocks are divided by clean gray lines. I think, it a plus from usability point of view. People may have wide range of opinions on Microsoft way of doing business, but one thing is for sure: Microsoft design style is simple, functional and it has good usability.

Comparing to Apple style, it’s not so rich or luxury. But it works.

Magazine Style

pros: Attractive, simple, condensed
cons: Needs lots of text and photos, strongly depends on content quality

Magazine web design style is… well, for magazines. It tries to bring high quality visual composition onto your screen, so you can appreciate all work that magazine designers completed for this issue.

You can recognize it by high quality photos and images, mixed up with lots of links to articles.

Examples of distinctive Magazine style:

Target audience for Magazine Style is magazines reading people. Not engineers, not web designers, not even experienced web users.
This is really high-end stuff, created by professional designers, who can really enjoy what they are doing. In order to do something similar, you better have a pro working for you for a pretty good compensation…

Rounded Plain Style

pros: Simple, light, allows to focus on the content

cons: A bit boring, non-original, not impressive

Design like this is not bad at all. Its purpose – to draw attention to content. It also is minimal in terms of traffic.
Typical site (www.youtube.com) has top navigation menu with rounded corners and intentionally simple elements.

Example of distinctive Rounded Plain style:

Web 2.0 Design Style

pros: Modern, well accepted, new
cons: Usability issues, fixed width

Web 2.0 design style can be recognized by
- Fixed width
- Central (rounded) shape with shadows
- Lots of gradients and volumes
- Large fonts

- Headers, highlighted with bright colors
- Substantial amount of gray text
- Wide range of text size
- Rounded shapes and buttons
- Shadows, glass-effects, more gradients

Adobe / Macromedia Style

pros: Clean, simple, balanced, high-end
cons: Expensive, distinctive, usability issues

This style is like Apple’s: once you’ve seen it, you can recognize any attempt to follow it. Very expensive design, very loaded in terms of graphical effects, very balanced overall. Originally created by Macromedia a few years back, this web design style remains one of the best.

Distinctive elements of Macromedia web design style.
Complex gradient menu with shadow, rounded blocks with shadows, rounded banner under menu, fixed width, centered.

This article is not…

This is not even an attempt to come up with a complete description of current web design styles; I’ve just put things (which I personally like) together and  explained distinctive features of them.

Many other web design styles (especially from so called “Art Design” category) are left unexplained. Not because of I find them useless or not pretty, but mostly for usability reasons. You cannot use piece of art in everyday life. You are not suppose to.

I also haven’t highlighted styles, which I didn’t find attractive for lots of reasons: from their usability to aesthetics.
